Your Guide to The Holidays ’12 Part I: Fashion

via collegefashion.net

Most of the leaves have fallen off the trees, the air outside is crisp and bitter cold, and smells of cinnamon, pine and vanilla are beginning to waft. With tomorrow being Thanksgiving, the winter holidays are right around the corner and it’s time to start getting prepared!

The holidays are infamous for parties, social gatherings, family time, and celebration. Our first stop in this series– what will you wear?!

Dresses are the obvious choice for a party. Above are a few of my favorite options this season.

Velvet:  A burgundy velvet mini is a great choice for a couple of reasons: Velvet is in season, it’s warm, and it comes off as looking luxe. This particular dress is from Dorothy Perkins for only $29!
LBD:
You could pull out the same boring, little black dress you wore last year, and the same one you wear for any major occasion– or, try one that’s a little more edgy. The cut of the dress above is so unique, yet still elegant. You can find it at Asos now on sale for $47.
Collared:
I’m personally attracted to anything with an embellished collar. This shift dress has clean lines that are sure to make you stand out from the crowd. Find it at Chicnova for $41.
Glitter:
This dress is great for those of you who don’t want to commit to a full on sparkled dress. The loose chiffon material of the top half, is balanced out by the tighter bodycon fit of the bottom half. Purchase it at AX Paris for $49
Deco:
There’s just something about this knitted deco piece that looks super comfortable. The pattern is perfect for a party and the fit will allow you to dance freely! For only $28 at Asos, this dress could be yours.
Peplum:
Peplum, peplum, peplum. You sure have stayed around a while! That’s okay though because we love you. Try it in a jewel tone with sheer paneling like the one above from AX Paris, $40.

Dresses are a great option for holiday parties, but they aren’t the only option. Here are some other looks to try if you want to step out of the box:

Skinny jeans and a statement blazer, a snakeskin skirt and a “look at me” belt, or a suit and killer heels are all nontraditional ways to dress-up for the holidays!

We’ve still got a month to go before the winter holidays begin rolling in, but it’s never too early to think about what you’ll wear when the parties do finally occur. Which look is your favorite?
