Pantone’s Fall 2012 Color Report

I like to think of the new school year as an excuse for reinvention. You haven’t seen most of your classmates for three months now! Don’t you want to show them you’re looking better than they remember? Maybe it’s not even that, but the fact that you’re ready for a new attitude and a new look to go along with it this year. Or, if you’re like me and you’ll be starting a new school this year, you really want to reinvent yourself because no one will know the old you! So what’s your new look going to be this school year? My suggestion? Start with color!

I love it when Pantone announces its new Color Report for the season! It’s reassuring and serves as a guideline for the hottest colors that we should incorporate into our wardrobes. I find, if you’re going for a new look, color is the best place to start! Think about the colors you wore most often last year. Was it all blacks and greys in comfy sweats or maybe loud colors that didn’t really flatter your skin tone. Either way, by looking at color, and the fall color trends in particular, you can start to build a new wardrobe for yourself.

Pantone's Fall 2012 Color Report

Boat neck dress / Forever 21 scoop neck sweater / Chiffon cardigan / Long coat / Cheap Monday skinny pants / Fat Face denim maxi skirt, $30 / Converse flat shoes / Zip bag, $24 / Breda sporty watch / Vero Moda long scarve, $4.87

Above shows some of the different ways you can incorporate this season’s colors into your new look for school. Pick three of your favorite colors from the report and slowly start to incorporate those into your wardrobe. Once you start feeling more comfortable, expand your color pallete! Pay attention to which colors will work best for you (you can see a guide here), which articles of clothing work well with which colors. A shortcut tip is to look for tops in colors like Pink Flambe, Tangerine Tango and Bright Chartreuse; the best colors for your bottoms are French Roast, Honey Gold, Rose Smoke and Ultramarine Green.

My favorite colors this season are Honey Gold, Ultramarine Green and Rhapsody. Those are the three I’m going to start adding to my new fall wardrobe! Which three colors will be in your palette this fall?
