Scarves aren’t just for the winter. A silk, or chiffon scarf can be the perfect lightweight addition to a summery outfit. I’ve collaborated with Alexa from LexLovesCouture. Keep reading to see how we would wear a scarf this season.
1. As a Necklace
2. With a Blazer
3. On a Purse
4. With a Basic Dress
5. As a Headband
6. With a Denim Vest
Be sure to visit Alexa’s post featuring both ways we wear summer scarves… and let me know which way is your favorite down below!
White clothing is so popular in the summertime because it doesn’t absorb any heat, but instead reflects it. This is great news, because as we know it can start to get hot and sticky around this time of year. Below are three ways you can wear white this season.
1. A Crop Top
Pair a cropped plain white tank with a pair of colored shorts. Nude shoes keep the look simple, clean, and elongate your legs. Add subtle jewelry such as a gold bracelet and studs to finish off the outfit.
2. White on White
A full skirt with lace detailing is super feminine, but a graphic B+W tee incorporates the perfect balance. Add in color with the accessories like shown above.
3. White Chiffon
How cool are these pants?? Any touch of chiffon in white is right on point for summer. The breezy fabric won’t feel sticky and hot on your legs. A fedora, and watercolor print top make this look more grown-up. A great look for the office.
There are a ton of super cute swimsuits available this summer. Some of my favorite styles include a ruffled front bikini top (see #7), a funky cutout (see #4), and a cool print (see #3). Our new house has a pool, my six-year-old neighbor (whom I’ll be babysitting full-time) has a pool, and our house is right next to a huge amusement park full of water rides! So, needless to say, I’ll be swimming a lot and need to find a few new suits. Above, I’ve combined what I think are some of the best styles of the season. Which one is your favorite? What are your summer plans?
As fall approaches, it’s time for us to start thinking about how to adjust the way we dress. Thankfully, transitioning from a summer wardrobe to fall isn’t hard at all! With a few simple layering tricks, you can still wear your favorite summer pieces for a little while longer…
Top: TjMaxx |Shorts: Aeropostle |Sandals: Clarks |Bralette: Pacsun
I find myself gravitating towards this shirt all the time this summer! It’s super cute, but keeps me cool at the same time. I paired mine with a bralette underneath and my comfiest denim shorts. I added a colorful belt and a flower hairpin to keep things fresh.
Tank Top: Goodwill |Blazer/Necklace: Forever21 |Jeans: American Eagle
To make your crop top appropriate for fall, replace the bandeau with a tank top. I chose this fun sparkly one I found at Goodwill. Next, layer a blazer or jacket over top. Finally, add jeans! I’ve accessorized with a couple of long silver necklaces and a pair of dangly silver earrings.
Dress: Goodwill |Wedges: Payless |Assorted Jewelry: H&M, Fossil
In the summer I like to layer with jewelry. It doesn’t add any bulk to your outfit or make the heat anymore unbearable. Plus, it’s an awesome way to incorporate color! I kind of just piled a ton of bracelets on until my hand felt like it weighed enough.
Belt: Charlotte Russe |Boots: DSW |Shirt: Old Navy
You can still wear your floral summer dresses into fall (and probably winter and spring too!). This is great news for me and probably many of you too because I’ve become attached to my summer dresses! They’re so easy to wear. I layered a ditsy floral printed button down shirt underneath and cinched my waist with a belt I formed into a bow; and of course it wouldn’t look “fall” enough without a pair of riding boots!
Top: Urban Outfitters| Shorts: DIY |Watch: Dad’s |Earrings: Mom’s
I just recently bought this top at Urban Outfitters and it’s become my new favorite (in fact I’m wearing it right now as I type this!). The front of it looks fairly plain. It has a high neck and a long, loose fit; but then I turn around… It has a slit up the back that reveals a little skin! I love that it has that unexpected twist to it, and I can go on for days telling you about how comfy it is. So anyways, I paired these DIYed cuttoff shorts with my new top and kept the jewelry very minimal.
Sweater: Old Navy |Scarf: Gifted |Boots: Nine West
I love the idea of wearing a cozy sweater with a pair of shorts. I find it’s the perfect balance for those in-between seasons. I forgot how warm and toasty this purple infinity scarf is… I think my ankle booties give the look some edge and make it work for fall as well.
I hope these transformations help get you thinking about how you’ll transition your favorite summer clothes into your fall staples! Let me know which look was your favorite.
Over in the UK, we’re always super excited when it’s that time of year again: tennis season. And of course, the highlight of summer sports has got to be Wimbledon.
This year, a host of well-dressed stars attended the tournament, including Grace Jones, Victoria Beckham, and the beautiful Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton.
For me, Kate’s outfit choices always encapsulate summer style, and her Wimbledon wardrobe was no exception. She was seen in a number of stunning ensembles by designers including Temperley London, Joseph, and Alexander McQueen.
In fact, she’s pictured below wearing a gorgeous Alexander McQueen cable-knit dress from one year ago, which she re-wore at this year’s Wimbledon. You see? She’s clearly an ‘Inexpensive Chic’ girl at heart- even a Princess repeats outfits like the rest of us!
Here are my choices on how to recreate Kate’s classic look:
Kate is known for keeping her silhouette very sleek, so this cute cardigan from House of Fraser will give your outfit a chic and streamlined effect, balancing out the slightly more voluminous skirt from Danish label, Monki. While Kate’s chosen a dress, the style is broken up by the striped pattern, so that’s why a skirt and pullover work equally as well for recreating her look.
The Duchess usually favours a classic court shoe or wedge in nude or black. Nude offers a flattering leg lengthening effect, but you can never go wrong with black. Kate’s pair match her outfit perfectly, and luckily, there are so many great high street replicas like this fab Dorothy Perkins pair.
Finally, to add a little glamour to the outfit, a silk scarf like this one from French Connection is perfect for added texture and detail come summer. Like Kate’s nautical tie, this one will lift your outfit and provide that extra interesting feature.
In this outfit, you’re sure to channel a classic ‘Kate’ look. And who wouldn’t want to look like Royalty?!
Try a boho feel by pairing floral printed jeans with a denim button down. For those of you who like to look more chic and polished, go for a pastel tank top, a bold statement necklace, and nude pumps. Lastly, for all you casual chicas, wear a cropped tie-front top with a pair of fun colored canvas sneaks.
Studded flats (or studded slipper as they’re sometimes called) come at all different price points. You can go for the high-end Jeffrey Campbell ones, a pair from Nine West which is more middle ground, or even a store like Payless on the lower-end. Whichever you choose, every girl should own a pair of these shoes! What better way than to give your look the edge it needs?
What I adore about mesh sweaters is that they are perfect for layering. Pair a neon bandeau underneath in the summer, and when it comes time for fall, layer with a tank top underneath and a blazer on top! Also, in the summer, you want to wear as little clothing as possible, and the netting or crochet feel to a meshed top will allow you room to breathe.
A denim bustier is a flirty summer piece that can be adapted to so many different styles. My favorite way to wear it is with a pair of high-waisted shorts. If you’re daring, try the double-denim trend and wear your denim bustier with a denim shorts. Other pairings include leather shorts, floral, neon, etc. but you want to opt for a high waist, if you can, since it’s cropped!
I love how simple these cross bracelets are, and stacked with a ton of other bracelets it’ll shine even more! I’m seeing a lot of bloggers, celebs and you-tubers wearing these lately.
The sideways cross necklace is a modern twist to the traditional cross necklace. Again, it’s so simple and chic and can be paired with other dainty necklace like Kourtney is showing us above.
Bowler hats can be characterized as round and hard with a narrow brim. Most commonly they’re found in black but they can come in other colors too, of course. You’ll love it because:
- It’ll keep the sun off your face
- It’s super trendy and stylish
- You can wear it as a quick fix to a bad hair day
- It’ll transition nicely into fall
These 6 pieces will definitely be added to my wardrobe in the near future. What are some pieces you’re currently lusting after?!

This summer don’t be afraid to let your sunnies make a statement. Look for quirky elements in the next pair you choose, whether it be a cat eye, dual colored frames, heart-shaped frames or a floral print.
Tip: With so many new styles to choose from, quantity over quality should be your motto. You shouldn’t spend more than $25 on a pair of trendy glasses, if you must, it’s better to invest in classic styles that will still be here 10 years from now.
