A Wimbledon Wardrobe

Over in the UK, we’re always super excited when it’s that time of year again: tennis season. And of course, the highlight of summer sports has got to be Wimbledon.

This year, a host of well-dressed stars attended the tournament, including Grace Jones, Victoria Beckham, and the beautiful Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton.

For me, Kate’s outfit choices always encapsulate summer style, and her Wimbledon wardrobe was no exception. She was seen in a number of stunning ensembles by designers including Temperley London, Joseph, and Alexander McQueen.

In fact, she’s pictured below wearing a gorgeous Alexander McQueen cable-knit dress from one year ago, which she re-wore at this year’s Wimbledon. You see? She’s clearly an ‘Inexpensive Chic’ girl at heart- even a Princess repeats outfits like the rest of us!

Here are my choices on how to recreate Kate’s classic look:

Kate Middleton chic

Kate is known for keeping her silhouette very sleek, so this cute cardigan from House of Fraser will give your outfit a chic and streamlined effect, balancing out the slightly more voluminous skirt from Danish label, Monki. While Kate’s chosen a dress, the style is broken up by the striped pattern, so that’s why a skirt and pullover work equally as well for recreating her look.

The Duchess usually favours a classic court shoe or wedge in nude or black. Nude offers a flattering leg lengthening effect, but you can never go wrong with black. Kate’s pair match her outfit perfectly, and luckily, there are so many great high street replicas like this fab Dorothy Perkins pair.

Finally, to add a little glamour to the outfit, a silk scarf like this one from French Connection is perfect for added texture and detail come summer. Like Kate’s nautical tie, this one will lift your outfit and provide that extra interesting feature.

In this outfit, you’re sure to channel a classic ‘Kate’ look. And who wouldn’t want to look like Royalty?!

6 Pieces You Need to Add to Your Wardrobe Now!

Printed Pants: $19 Monki.com
Studded Flats: $50 Zara.com
Mesh Sweater: $35 Garage.ca
Denim Bustier: $24 Topshop.com
Cross Jewelry: (Necklace) $35 Boticca.com (Bracelet) $6.60 Gojane.com
Bowler Hat: $22 Romwe.com

Printed jeans instantly add a wow-factor to your outfit. They’re the perfect piece to wear when you want to look like you’ve tried hard without actually putting in any effort.

Try a boho feel by pairing floral printed jeans with a denim button down. For those of you who like to look more chic and polished, go for a pastel tank top, a bold statement necklace, and nude pumps. Lastly, for all you casual chicas, wear a cropped tie-front top with a pair of fun colored canvas sneaks.

Studded flats (or studded slipper as they’re sometimes called) come at all different price points. You can go for the high-end Jeffrey Campbell ones, a pair from Nine West which is more middle ground, or even a store like Payless on the lower-end. Whichever you choose, every girl should own a pair of these shoes! What better way than to give your look the edge it needs?

Express: Lurex Mesh Sweater $19.99

Viictoria’s Secret: Mesh V-neck Sweater $19.99

What I adore about mesh sweaters is that they are perfect for layering. Pair a neon bandeau underneath in the summer, and when it comes time for fall, layer with a tank top underneath and a blazer on top! Also, in the summer, you want to wear as little clothing as possible, and the netting or crochet feel to a meshed top will allow you room to breathe.

A denim bustier is a flirty summer piece that can be adapted to so many different styles. My favorite way to wear it is with a pair of high-waisted shorts. If you’re daring, try the double-denim trend and wear your denim bustier with a denim shorts. Other pairings include leather shorts, floral, neon, etc. but you want to opt for a high waist, if you can, since it’s cropped!

I love how simple these cross bracelets are, and stacked with a ton of other bracelets it’ll shine even more! I’m seeing a lot of bloggers, celebs and you-tubers wearing these lately.

The sideways cross necklace is a modern twist to the traditional cross necklace. Again, it’s so simple and chic and can be paired with other dainty necklace like Kourtney is showing us above.

Bowler hats can be characterized as round and hard with a narrow brim. Most commonly they’re found in black but they can come in other colors too, of course. You’ll love it because:

  • It’ll keep the sun off your face
  • It’s super trendy and stylish
  • You can wear it as a quick fix to a bad hair day
  • It’ll transition nicely into fall

Summer’s Most Popular Nail Polish Shades According to the University of Oxford

I don’t know about you but I’ve always been a huge fan of nail polishes and I can’t stop drooling over each and every color I lay my eyes on, however not all colors are appropriate for summer. Summer’s most popular shades seem to be divided into two color categories:  orange/fuchsia hues and blue/green hues.

According to research made by the University of Oxford (yes they actually care about nail polishes!) the most popular red/fuchsia hues are the ones shown here: mulberry pink, salmon and tangerine orange. Also according to the University of Oxford each of these colors represents a feeling.

  • Mulberry Pink= Happiness
  • Salmon= Romance
  • Tangerine= Energy.

Turquoise, blue-green and mint were picked by 1,900 women and girls of 20 to 30 years old with mint getting the first place by 987 votes. Each of these colors also represents a feeling:

  • Mint= Calm
  • Turquoise= Energy
  • Blue-Green= Dreamy

Who knew that our nail polish shades can represent a particular feeling?

But what’s the shade of nail polish the majority of the women picked?? Red? Pink? Think again!

2,100 women picked orange as their fave color for summer marking it as the most popular color of the 21st century; It’s been picked by women for more than 4 years.

Print Midi Dress

Printed Dress | DKNYC  Braided Belt | Charlotte Russe  Heels | Nine West

I found this gem in my mother’s closet! It’s such a beautiful dress and is quite the statement piece. Midi dresses are in between a maxi and mini length hemline– the perfect balance, I think. I kept my accessories minimal so that the focus could be on the dress. What do you think? Do you love this dress as much as I do?
