Winter can be a beautiful time of the year. The snow is gracefully dusted on naked branches, sitting by a warm fire with a cup of cocoa can be peaceful, and of course the holidays bring in cheer. What’s not so pretty during this time of year? Dry, flaky skin. Luckily, there are remedies for that. Read on…
1. Upgrade Your Face Lotion Lightweight lotions are great for the spring and summer, but for the winter, you may want to go for something that’s a little more heavy-duty. Try looking for a facial lotion containing Vitamin E and glycerol. This combination will lock in the moisture, keeping your skin smooth. In addition, try layering a serum on top for Vitamin C.
2. Get Your Omega-3 Fatty Acids These acids are very important to maintain healthy skin, and hair too! You can get them by taking a pill, or through certain foods. Salmon, tuna, nuts, seeds, etc. are just a few examples. Eating lots of fruit, protein, and drinking green tea can also be beneficial to your winter skin care routine.
3. Take Quick Showers While you may think water is hydrating for your skin, it actually dries it out. The longer you stay in the shower (especially if it’s hot), the drier your epidermis becomes. So, don’t stay in there for too long! Once you emerge, be sure to moisturize immediately while your skin is still damp.
4. Exfoliate! Make sure to exfoliate two to three times a week (both face and body). As you exfoliate the skin, you’re actually getting rid of the dry skin cells, revealing fresh, new skin cells that will appear brighter and healthier.
Taking care of your skin is one of the most important things you can do beauty wise. Hopefully, these tips will help you to achieve healthy, moisturized skin that will last all winter long!
