My Favorite Summer Perfumes

When I was a little girl I used to have a slight obsession with my mom’s fresh, summery perfumes–full of floral, fruity and exotic notes. I remember spraying my skin, pretending that I was a little lady and making up stories for each and every scent. Fortunately, now that I’ve grown up I have found my own fave perfumes. No need to steal mom’s anymore!

1.  Light Blue by Dolce&Gabbana, was inspired by the liveliness of Sicilian citron, the joy of Granny Smith apple and the spontaneity of bluebells. With it’s base of Cedarwood, Amber and Musk; fresh top notes of lemon and apple this perfume is here to stay and mesmerize everyone who happens to walk past you.

2.   Estee Lauder, Bronze Goddess. With top notes such as Sicilian bergamot and juicy mandarin, a base of caramel and coconut cream and a heart that blooms with an exotic blend of tiare milk, Tahitian gardenia, coconut oil, jasmine and orange blossom this perfume is sure to be described as exotic, warm and solar.

3. Oh Lola by Marc Jacobs is the perfect smell for all the girly, playful ladies out there. With strong accents of bubblegum strawberry, clean peony, blueberry and a variety of other flowers and fruits this perfume is fresh, fruity and spring-y/ summery. Perfect for teenagers.

4. Sunset heat by Escada is a fun floral/fruity fragrance perfect for summer. Notes of papaya, lemon, mango sherbet and watermelon create an exotic cocktail perfect for beach parties.

How to Style a Maxi Skirt 5 Different Ways

Every once in a while, comes a fashion trend that intimidates me or takes me awhile to embrace. This season, it’s the maxi skirt! If you always feared of looking like a homeless person instead of a boho goddess like Nicole Richie or were under the impression that a maxi skirt can only be worn into a bohemian outfit, think again…

There are many different ways to style your maxi skirts! Enjoy fab ladies!

Way #1: Classic

For the classy ladies out there with a soft spot for chic and minimalistic go for a simple top with a monochromatic or a striped skirt like the one pictured here. Add a sexy twist with a slit and high heels which compliment each and every figure.

Way #2: Sophisticated Boho

For the ones who want to embrace their boho side but with a chic twist, try matching your skirts color to your top’s one or a belt. Little boho details like the paisley pattern, the cropped top and the vest-y white top add that necessary care-free touch without taking off the chic vibe of these outfits.

Way #3: Casual

If you want to get that boho relaxed look and look like Nicole Richie and Vanessa Hudgens, simply pair a printed skirt with lots of jewels (long earrings, bracelets, rings etc) and a cropped top or a simple tee. Don’t go over the top with the top half of your body, keep it relaxed and fun.

Way #4: Rocker

And what if you are a rock chick like myself? Then simply go for a solid color, a leather jacket (unless it’s hot outside) and lots of rock accessories such as bracelets, rings, smokey eyes and eye pencil.

Way #5: Glam it Up!

Last but not least for the ones that want to glam up their maxi skirts, an embellished or sequined top, some high heels and metallic details keep your inner diva alive.

Summer’s Most Popular Nail Polish Shades According to the University of Oxford

I don’t know about you but I’ve always been a huge fan of nail polishes and I can’t stop drooling over each and every color I lay my eyes on, however not all colors are appropriate for summer. Summer’s most popular shades seem to be divided into two color categories:  orange/fuchsia hues and blue/green hues.

According to research made by the University of Oxford (yes they actually care about nail polishes!) the most popular red/fuchsia hues are the ones shown here: mulberry pink, salmon and tangerine orange. Also according to the University of Oxford each of these colors represents a feeling.

  • Mulberry Pink= Happiness
  • Salmon= Romance
  • Tangerine= Energy.

Turquoise, blue-green and mint were picked by 1,900 women and girls of 20 to 30 years old with mint getting the first place by 987 votes. Each of these colors also represents a feeling:

  • Mint= Calm
  • Turquoise= Energy
  • Blue-Green= Dreamy

Who knew that our nail polish shades can represent a particular feeling?

But what’s the shade of nail polish the majority of the women picked?? Red? Pink? Think again!

2,100 women picked orange as their fave color for summer marking it as the most popular color of the 21st century; It’s been picked by women for more than 4 years.

How to Wear Spring Colors

I’ve taken three of the most popular colors for spring: turquoise, orange, and green and showed you what other colors to pair them with for a playful, fresh look. Did you know orange is the color for creativity? Don’t forget to read about what each of the colors mean…Green is the color of nature, fertility, life with grass-green being the most restful color. Green symbolizes self-respect, well-being and balance. It also means learning, growth and harmony.

It’s super easy to incorporate green in your wardrobe whether its summer/spring or autumn/winter. Bright hues such as purple and blue are the perfect pairing for spring!

Orange is a power color, it is one of the healing colors and it also stimulates enthusiasm and creativity. Orange means vitality with endurance. People who like orange are usually thoughtful and sincere.

Yes, orange is a power color however you shouldn’t be afraid to wear it. Pairing it with blue or yellow is the perfect way to stand out.

Turquoise is the symbol of youth, both the color and the gemstone. This color has a soothing affects and is the color of communication. It contains the growth quality of green with the blue quality of communication. Turquoise has long been used in amulets to provide protection, health, confidence and strength.

Such a beautiful color to wear, perfect for any skin tone and figure, it can be incorporated into your wardrobe for spring with any shade of green, mint, magenta and pink.

Look for less: Katniss Everdeen/The Hunger Games

I’ve been hooked on the hunger games (both the books and movie) for a while now and I actually watched the movie twice (watching something as fab as THG only once just isn’t enough!). Not only is the movie filled with breath-taking, sitting- on- the- edge- of- your- seat- scenes, and the actors are exactly as I imagined them to be, but the movie has some great fashion as well!

No matter if you are a die-hard fan or simply love to recreate the styles of fictional characters, no one can resist the charm of Jennifer Lawrence’s wardrobe as Katniss Everdeen.

Casual and comfortable pieces such as sporty jackets and cargo pants, distressed leather jackets and combat boots and the popular Katniss braids (aka double braids) consist of the most edgy and fab wardrobes I’ve seen lately.

Here are a few examples on how to recreate her style for less.

A unique mix between military and edgy, her outfits can easily be recreated by adding just a few must-have pieces to your wardrobe.

I found five different kinds of combat boots for you: simple black ones, khaki ones and the trendier, chic version of them in brown and beige suede.

Not to forget that they are all under $50. Click each picture to be taken to their website…

Finding a simple black t-shirt/top is a piece of cake for most of us, however finding a khaki top was a lot harder than I thought. I decided to go with three different choices: a simple casual one and one that is a bit more chic and girly for all of you who don’t want to lose your femininity.

Regarding her jacket collection I divided it into leather jackets and sporty ones since she sported both in the movie.

Last but not least for the die-hard fans, you’ll need a sporty bag, mockingjay pin and braids.

I chose a sporty black bag, a simpler one for you who don’t want to go sporty but just get a bit inspired by Katniss’s style and of course the original pin.

Don´t forget to comment and may the odds be ever in your favor.

Pastel Blocking

I am sure that you all know and love the recent color blocking trend however now that spring is here and pastel is considered this year’s “neon” maybe you should consider pastel blocking.  You may ask yourself what is pastel blocking all about. Well its simple pastel blocking ( I totally came up with this word) is the art of combining two or more pastel colored pieces into one fab outfit.

Here are some examples.

Don’t be afraid to experiment with colors. Baby blue, mint, lavender, lemon, light pink, light green and peach can look as fab combined together as styled individually.

“How to wear it: The Neon bag”

Neon bags have been a trend for a while now, however they are not for the faint of hearts, carrying around a neon bag can be really tricky. Colors and textures should be carefully mixed in order to not look like a walking neon sign or someone working in the construction. Here are a few tips on how to wear neon bags with monochromatic and colorful outfits.

  Monochromatic chic.

In case you are not used to wearing really bright colors or splashes of neon, a bag is the perfect way to put a touch of color into your outfit without going into colorblocking territory. A neon bag can also be a perfect choice for a formal event or even work, if you combine it with a simple white shirt, white blazer, pants (better go for simple black pants instead of leather if you are going to work) and black pumps.

Playing up with the same color

In case you want to play up with neon colors, but you are still afraid to go overboard matching the color of your bag with an piece of your clothing can do wonders for you. Either its your bag with a top, skirt or jewels, this trend can never go wrong.

Neon color blocking

For the bravest of all, color blocking with neon pieces can work either by a mix and match of bright colors and neon with neutral ones,  either by adding a touch of black and white in a bright/neon explosion of colors.

No matter if you go for color blocking or safe outfits, neon can add that fresh funky touch into your wardrobe, so don’t be afraid: go neon!

Back in Time: The Fashionable ’20s

With the Great Gatsby due to come out and the flapper-esque dresses and skirts ruling the runway, the fashionable decade of ’20s couldn’t be more in fashion. However I wonder how many things do we really know about the ’20s?

Here’s a list of things you should know:

1920s Fashion Was A Sign Of Liberation

Turning their back on the more restrictive, tubular dresses of the 1910’s, the liberated women of the time turned to more comfortable clothing such as short pants or skirts. 1920s fashion for women now incorporated shorter styles with pleats, slits and gathers allowing for more freedom and motion. Colorful silk tights also came back into fashion for those who could afford them. A casual and/or sport variety was also made from cotton lisle. 1920s fashion had tights being folded just above the knee and kept in place with garters. 1920s fashion broke all the rules by raising hemlines to just below the knee, exposing the legs (something that had not been seen for centuries). Corsets and bustles of previous eras were replaced with camisoles, bloomers or a chemise.

1920s fashion saw bathing suits become more revealing as women started to express their new freedom. Bathing suits were either short taffeta outfits – favored by older women – or tight, sleeveless woolen tank suits with pre-fitted undershorts which only covered down to the mid-leg. Bathing caps became a necessity as ladies needed to protect their bobbed hair styles from getting wet. People of this era also became interested in health-foods and exercise.

Icons.

French designer, Coco Chanel, was one of the first women to employ pants in her designs, cut her hair short and totally reject the corset. Because of her vision she became one of the most influential designers and entrepreneurs of that century.Chanel 1920s Fashion

Her first Chemise was designed (by her) in 1920 and in 1925 she designed the collarless cardigan jacket. Chanel No.5, her signature perfume, was also released in 1925.

Elegance, luxury and simplicity were a trademark of her style. Chanel, in her own way, helped greatly in the freedom and emancipation of female fashion as well as the evolution of 1920s fashion.

Elsa Schiaparelli

By the end of the twenties, the younger generations had started searching for their own style. The 1920s fashion of Elsa Schiaparelli elegantly filled this gap. By combining the classical styles of the Romans and Greeks with the now modern “Bohemian” style, she introduced a range of elegant dresses that didn’t hide the body as the chemise did, but enhanced the natural contours.1920s fashion Elsa Shiaparelli

Easy ways to adapt the fashion of that era into your wardrobe:

Celebrity Look for Less|A. Jolie

Angelina Jolie was an angel walking on the red carpet of Golden Globes 2012 awards. With her white Versace dress and red lipstick, she mesmerized thousands of men and women all around the globe. I personally fell in love with her look, but knowing how hard it is to get my hands on a Versace dress I kept searching for a similar one until I found this AxParis dress. It may not be identical to the one Angie is wearing, but a short white dress is more versatile for us, everyday girls, than a maxi one.
