As fall approaches, it’s time for us to start thinking about how to adjust the way we dress. Thankfully, transitioning from a summer wardrobe to fall isn’t hard at all! With a few simple layering tricks, you can still wear your favorite summer pieces for a little while longer…
Top: TjMaxx |Shorts: Aeropostle |Sandals: Clarks |Bralette: Pacsun
I find myself gravitating towards this shirt all the time this summer! It’s super cute, but keeps me cool at the same time. I paired mine with a bralette underneath and my comfiest denim shorts. I added a colorful belt and a flower hairpin to keep things fresh.
Tank Top: Goodwill |Blazer/Necklace: Forever21 |Jeans: American Eagle
To make your crop top appropriate for fall, replace the bandeau with a tank top. I chose this fun sparkly one I found at Goodwill. Next, layer a blazer or jacket over top. Finally, add jeans! I’ve accessorized with a couple of long silver necklaces and a pair of dangly silver earrings.
For Summer…
Dress: Goodwill |Wedges: Payless |Assorted Jewelry: H&M, Fossil
In the summer I like to layer with jewelry. It doesn’t add any bulk to your outfit or make the heat anymore unbearable. Plus, it’s an awesome way to incorporate color! I kind of just piled a ton of bracelets on until my hand felt like it weighed enough.
For Fall…
Belt: Charlotte Russe |Boots: DSW |Shirt: Old Navy
You can still wear your floral summer dresses into fall (and probably winter and spring too!). This is great news for me and probably many of you too because I’ve become attached to my summer dresses! They’re so easy to wear. I layered a ditsy floral printed button down shirt underneath and cinched my waist with a belt I formed into a bow; and of course it wouldn’t look “fall” enough without a pair of riding boots!

Top: Urban Outfitters| Shorts: DIY |Watch: Dad’s |Earrings: Mom’s
I just recently bought this top at Urban Outfitters and it’s become my new favorite (in fact I’m wearing it right now as I type this!). The front of it looks fairly plain. It has a high neck and a long, loose fit; but then I turn around… It has a slit up the back that reveals a little skin! I love that it has that unexpected twist to it, and I can go on for days telling you about how comfy it is. So anyways, I paired these DIYed cuttoff shorts with my new top and kept the jewelry very minimal.
Sweater: Old Navy |Scarf: Gifted |Boots: Nine West
I love the idea of wearing a cozy sweater with a pair of shorts. I find it’s the perfect balance for those in-between seasons. I forgot how warm and toasty this purple infinity scarf is… I think my ankle booties give the look some edge and make it work for fall as well.
I hope these transformations help get you thinking about how you’ll transition your favorite summer clothes into your fall staples! Let me know which look was your favorite.

Nice way to add sleeves to a summer dress! The sheer top was also a cute idea. Niyah I love your style!
Thanks kathryn!
I really like that idea for the sheer top!
