Sugar Lips sent me this flowy ivory chiffon dress as part of their fashion blogger program. When I first tried it on I noticed it was a lot more girly and ruffley than I anticipated. I’m usually not one to wear super frilly things, but after while I ended up appreciating the other aspects of it.
First, the cut. The front is dipped in a low “V” shape and the back mirrors it with a triangle cut, the top ties off in a bow. Second, the color. I honestly don’t own any white dresses. While having a little black dress is a key wardrobe staple, a little white dress is also essential, especially in the summer. Third, the material. I love chiffon! It’s the perfect fabric for summer because it’s lightweight and airy, and it’s been extremely trendy lately. Last, the fit. The dress fits me really well and since I’m tall, its important for me to have the right length (right above the knee) so it doesn’t look too short.
My little bro (my photographer today) and I went on a bike ride not too far from the house to do the shoot. You should’ve seen me biking in this dress! It was flying all over the place; but I think we got some great shots. The dress is naturally very elaborate. It’s something you could wear to a formal dinner, a dance or on a date. My summer has been pretty chill and I don’t see myself needing to wear the dress for any of those special occasions, but it could be worn dressed down as well–something for everyday errands or casual parties. Here are the two ways I would wear it:
Look 1: With a Blazer
My initial thought with adding a blazer was to hide some of the ruffles on the dress. The dress has butterfly sleeves which extend to the back as well as the front making it super girly. By adding a blazer like this one from Forever21, I can cover up the sleeves and just let the ruffles at the hemline shine. I added a clutch that I thrifted and DIYed out of modgepodged comics, a snakeskin flat (Friedmans), a few gold rings (Heirlooms) and glamorous gold earrings (Forever21).
Look 2: Add Some Color!
Adding color to this dress makes it a little more fun and sweet. I feel like the playful hot pink sunglasses (TjMaxx), the multi color boho bag (Gifted), the turquoise sandals (Nine West) and thin yellow belt (Charlotte Russe) work well together to convey a light, summery vibe!
Overall, I’m happy with this dress and I’m excited to explore more ways to wear it. Which look do you prefer? How else would you style this dress? Let me know in the comments below
