Must Have Trend: Printed Pants

All photos from Chicfeed.com

I’ve been noticing a lot of printed denim/printed pants on the streets lately; and I am so in love with this trend! Above are some ideas for different ways you can wear it. My favorite way is the third picture. The yellow and pink touches of color, against those funky black and white pants, and graphic Karl Lagerfeld T-shirt– very well put together.

Which is your favorite look? Would you wear this trend?

My New Love: Retro Bathing Suits

Swimsuit season has arrived! Are you ready? I’ve been looking for the perfect bathing suit and I couldn’t help but come across a plethora of retro inspired ones; and I must admit I like what I see. What makes a bathing suit “retro” you might ask? Well, halter style swimsuits were popular in the 40′s (which is often associated with the retro style swimsuit, today). The bikini was first invented in 1946 by French engineer Louis Réard, but it wasn’t the dominated style choice until the 60′s. The 70′s were all about high-waisted bottoms (which, again, is what you’ll find in a lot of retro style swimsuits today). So, retro bathing suits originated from a combo of the 40′s and 70′s.

I like that they come in so many great patterns and styles though. You can find retro bathing suits in a one-piece or two piece, bandeau or bralette, plain high-waisted, or with a skirt–there’s something for every body shape!

Now, I am on the hunt to find one of these bad boys. I did find a cute one at forever21 for a decent price, but if any of you know any other places I can get an inexpensive one let me, know…

P.s. What style bathing suit are you looking for this season?

Top 9 Musthave Fashion Apps for the iPhone

Ever since I got an iPhone 4-s for Christmas I’ve been obsessed! I take it everywhere I go, it’s the last thing I look at before I go to sleep and the first thing I look at when I wake up. And why shouldn’t it be? I literally have everything I need on my phone (except food, shelter and air… but other than that…).

For those of you who have iPhone’s or smartphones in general, you may want to think about downloading some of these fun fashion apps! I check them all on a daily basis; I often find they provide inspiration for a new blog post or outfit idea.

1. Go Try it On

I try to take a quick “phone in the mirror” pic everyday before school of my outfit. I then upload it to Go Try it On and as the day continues on I get notified when there’s new feedback on my outfit. People can vote whether to “wear it” or “change it” and leave comments as well. You can even earn badges for giving great feedback or having popular looks that are well received within the community. This app is super addicting! I love voting on other people’s looks too.

2. Pic Stitch

Pic Stitch is a photo editing software that allows you to create a collage. I usually create a collage of my outfit (showing different angles/details) and then I’ll import it to Instagram to give it a filter, and finally it goes on Go Try it On for review (as well as Twitter!).

3. Instagram

A popular photo editing/sharing site where you can give cool filters to your photos. My favorite filters are: X-pro II, Brannan and Nashville. Find me under the username “Niyah.”

4. ShopStyle

My go-to app when I need to find a certain article of clothing, jewelry or accessory. Say I am looking for a denim jacket? I can search that and narrow the results by price, color, brand, keyword, etc. making it super easy to find exactly what I am looking for! When I do find what I am looking for, I just click the star to “favorite it” and come back to it later to purchase.

5. Chicfeed

A great source for inspiration on outfit ideas, Chicfeed is a street style app showcasing the styles of average people around the world!

6. Style.com

A great reference source for the latest news in fashion. I love to scan through the latest runway shows and pick my favorite designers of the season.

7. Pinterest

Another great place for inspiration! I enjoy repinning anything that catches my eye– from food, to jewelry, to clothing…

8. Flipboard

I love going through and literally flipping the pages of new content. I learn so much just by spending 5 minutes using the app. You can choose what you want to read, and of course I have a lot of fashion sites I look at, but I also enjoy catching up on the latest world news.

9. Style Caster

You can check out your daily local weather by clicking here, but along with it, you get 3 different outfit ideas that they suggest would be appropriate for the temperature! Kinda cool, huh? Sometimes I come here to get an idea for an outfit that day.

Street Style: Meet Becky

Meet Becky Bedbug! (“Ok, that’s not my real name but it’s all I’m revealing for now!”) age 23 from Hampshire, England…

Describe your style:
A little bit pretty vintage, a little bit 2005-era emo kid on my lazy days.

Last item of clothing you bought and for how much?
Well I spent £95 in Primark yesterday. I can’t resist the lure of the cheap items! I got 3 chiffon blouses, a silky blouse, a floral dress, 2 pairs of shoes, handbag and 3 pairs of tights. Billy bargain!

Dream Job?
My dream job has always been a primary school teacher. So that’s what I did! I’m really new to the profession, having only started my first post 2 months ago! It’s amazing though. I can’t imagine doing anything else.
…Except maybe something in fashion, of course! Fashion journalism or set design maybe.

Your fashion inspiration?
I get inspiration from the strangest places. On my blog, I have a weekly post called Unlikely Style Icon in which I compile an outfit from high street pieces based around an odd character. So far I’ve covered Nora Batty, Bet Lynch and Miss Piggy with more lined up for future weeks!

In my own personal style, I am most inspired by other people on the street and street style sites such as Lookbook and Chictopia.

Something about yourself most people don’t know:
Probably the fact that I have around 50 pairs of shoes. Mainly because I only wear the same 2 or 3 pairs over and over again! I’m sure most people would have no idea that I have a whole library to choose from!

What color do you own most of:
I’d like to say red but it’s probably black. Red is my favourite colour, it’s the colour that looks best on me but I don’t own as much as I’d like. In fact, I don’t think I’ve worn any in a long time. It’s now my mission to buy many, many more red items!

You wouldn’t know it from looking at my home decor. There is red absolutely everywhere!

Fav stores:
I love the little vintage shops in Brighton. They are the perfect place to pick up unique little items.
On the high street, I love Topshop, River Island and Primark, of course!

One outfit you couldn’t live without?
Ooh this is a tough one! There are loads of outfits that I adore for different reasons. I couldn’t live without my velvet Kurt Geiger ballet pumps, I know that for a fact. My full-skirted, faux fur collar Topshop coat would definitely be a part of it too. I can’t decide on anything else though. I love it all too much!

Fav designer?
I adore Meadham Kirchhoff. They are my absolute favourites right now! I also love Miuccia Prada- for both Prada and Miu Miu, Marc Jacobs and Erdem. Vintage Christian Dior is always top of the list too.

Fav fashion mag?
It’s such a cliché to say Vogue but it’s true. I’m a fairly new reader, having only bought my first issue last April but I get so excited when it lands on my (funky owl print) doormat!

Fashion mantra?
“If you like it, wear it”.

Who cares what anyone else thinks or if it’s “in” this season? Everyone would be happier if they just wore whatever they wanted.

Any other info we should know?
I have a hugely stylish grandma! She is 76 and she takes so much pride in her appearance. She travels a lot (she’s only ever home about 6-8 weeks at a time!) and she has picked up fantastic pieces on her travels. She has these two amazing silk dresses that were custom-made for her in the Philipines and when I was 11 she bought this incredible silk pyjama suit from China. She is a very tiny woman and she allowed me to wear it out to dinner once. I felt like a princess!

I’m pretty sure I got my love of fashion from her at a very early age!

DailyLook

Have you heard of the website DailyLook? I hadn’t either until I watched Juicystar07′s video review on the site. Right after the video, I went to the site, signed up and I have been hooked ever since!

Basically, there are 3 stylists who create a “daily look” and subscribers can purchase the items from the look at discounted prices within the 36 hours. There are a few things I really like about this site:

  3. You can earn Look Points by sharing the looks, logging in, purchasing and telling a friends. Only 2000 Look Points earns you $20 store credit
  4. Outfits range from all different styles, so there’s always something for you

New In!

Spring break is almost over (I go back to school on Monday) and even though it’s sad, I am glad that I can say I stretched out my break to its max. You know when you go back to school and you hear everyone talking about how great of a time they had, and where they traveled? And then you start thinking about your break and realize you spent it waking up late and watching TV all day? I’ve definitely had those kind of spring break’s in the past, but I don’t regret a thing I did this year. I got to visit the place I’ve always dreamed of going (NYC!), got to go to my dream  man’s birthday party (Diggy!), got to visit my dream school (Columbia!) and I shadowed my mentor, celebrity makeup artist Tanaj Perry on a typical day working for CBS news. Plus, I tried foods I’ve never tried, shopped places I’ve never shopped and just got to experience a whole new world I never thought could be out there (Lol. So cheesy, I know). I was also able to see my grandparents on both my mom and dad’s side who live in Maryland and Pennsylvania respectively; which was a nice start and end to my break.

Pweph! See why I had such a fulfilling break?

In this post I want to share with you the new clothes I bought while in NYC. Later on today, I’ll be filming a haul video and showing you ways to wear each of the pieces. That way you’ll get a better look at the clothes and how they look on. The video should be posted either today or tomorrow, so be on the lookout for that…
